Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, New York
You’ve heard the story of the Headless Horseman and Ichabod Crane, but Sleepy Hollow is a real place and you can visit the cemetery with many connections to this famous tale. It’s also the final resting place for lots of famous folks.

Nerd Trips ABCs
Admission fee: It’s a cemetery, it’s free. However, there is a charge for tours and some special events (check the website for the latest information). Tours are offered only on weekends during a few months each year. We got a map and explored on our own. There are free maps or you can pay $5 at the cemetery office for a more detailed map. We purchased the detailed map at Sunnyside, Washington Irving’s home.
Bathrooms: It’s a cemetery, so no bathrooms. We did not stop in the cemetery office, so I don’t know they’ll allow you to use their bathrooms.
Concessions/food: Again, it’s a cemetery, no food. If you read our post, you’ll see that we ate at the El Dorado diner. We did a quick drive through the town of Sleepy Hollow itself, which looked to have some good restaurants and shops.
Cars/getting there: We drove to the cemetery as well as drove through it. It’s large and hilly, so it would be a good walk. I would go with driving. The website has information about taking a train to the town of Sleepy Hollow.
Coffee cups (aka souvenirs): There are no souvenirs here. However, we found some Sleepy Hollow items (including the detailed cemetery map) in the Sunnyside gift shop. There are also souvenir shops in town.
