Montpelier is the home of our fourth President James Madison. On the tour, you’ll stand in the library where the “Father of the Constitution” drafted that very document. The house itself has some interesting history, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation is working to restore it

We wrote about our visit in two posts: Part 1 and Part 2. Montpelier was part of the Ultimate Nerd Trip (2009).
Nerd Trips ABCs:
Admission fee: Yes. We paid about $8. Check the website for current prices.
Bathrooms: Good bathrooms in the Visitors Center.
Concessions/food: There is a cafe.
Cars/getting there: Parking was easy. Here’s a link to directions.
Coffee cups (aka souvenirs): Good gift shop. I purchased the memoir of Paul Jennings “A Colored Man’s Reminiscence of James Madison,” published in 1865. Here’s a link to our post about Jennings.
I also got a great magnet with a quote from James Madison. It says,” Philosophy is common sense only with big words.” Keep that in mind when someone is trying double talk you with some big fancy terms!
